About Family Law Cost Hub
I'm Bilal Butt, and I built this site because family-law costs are unusually hard to compare: every state and country uses a different formula, a different cap, and a different set of factors — and most “calculators” online hide the formula, or worse, invent a precise number where the law only gives a ceiling or a range.
This site does the opposite. Where the law gives a formula, we show the formula and let you run it. Where the law gives only a ceiling (Texas, Massachusetts and Florida alimony), we show the ceiling and the factors, and say plainly that the actual award is decided by the court. Where the law uses a schedule table or a computed allowance instead of a simple formula (Illinois child support, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), we publish a guide with a checked worked example rather than a calculator that would have to guess.
I am not a lawyer, and nothing on this site is legal advice or a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney in the jurisdiction that matters for your case. I do not claim legal credentials, and I have not invented any. Every page states its last-verified date (October 2026) and links to the official sources it relies on. Where a figure could not be verified from an official source, the page says so instead of publishing it.
If you spot an error, please tell me via the contact page — corrections matter more on a site like this than on most, because people may rely on these figures at a difficult time in their lives.
